Join us at Bay Leaves Larder for a wonderfully festive evening learning the beautiful Japanese art of Kimekomi bauble making, led by Natacha of Naxa Designs.
Dating back to 18th-century Japan, Kimekomi is a traditional decorative technique using carefully placed pieces of fabric to create intricate, beautifully patterned designs.
It’s a wonderfully calming, hands-on craft, and once you’ve learnt the technique, the possibilities are endless.
During the workshop, you’ll create your own collection of beautiful fabric-covered baubles, perfect for your Christmas tree, garland or as thoughtful handmade gifts.
And Kimekomi isn't just for Christmas. Once you've mastered the technique, you can use it to create personalised decorations for weddings, anniversaries, new babies, birthdays and seasonal celebrations throughout the year.
What you'll learn
Natacha will guide you step-by-step through the Kimekomi technique, including how to:

Select and combine Christmas, plain and patterned fabrics

Score and create grooves in your bauble base

Carefully tuck and secure fabric using the traditional Kimekomi method

Combine colours, prints and textures
-
Finish your baubles with cord, ribbon and embellishments ready for hanging
You'll leave with 2–3 handmade baubles of your own, as well as the skills and confidence to continue making more at home.
No previous craft experience is needed - just a little patience and an eye for colour and pattern.

If you have a few favourite fabric scraps or a special piece of fabric you'd love to incorporate, please feel free to bring them along. Lighter-weight fabrics work best, so please avoid anything particularly thick or heavy.
